creppy rei 4 a creepy day
I’M LAUGHING SO HARD AT THIS:
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Opening: A Cruel Angel's Thesis
au where madoka and shinji are the good kids from a good school who end up hanging out with the most notorious gangsters.
its okay if you like shinji but it seriously confuses me that everyone is like “LOL CUTIE BABY” like he is so fucked up mentally he’s a horrible person and friend and he’s a leech on other people
he’s a dick and i don’t think people really realize this??????????/
I can’t hear you over my love for my moe darling~
See, here’s the thing about terrible, abusive, fucked up people, speaking as one:
They don’t exist in a vacuum. Everything has context.
Shinji Ikari is a CHILD who was abused emotionally, physically, verbally, and sexually, as well as neglected and sheltered. He has been used and manipulated his entire life, yet still, for a good portion of the series, retains his boyish hope, his sense of wonder, and his innocence. We don’t see that last part of it die until humanity kills it. After Shinji Ikari defeated the seventeenth Angel, the eighteenth had already killed the last bit of innocence left in him.
Does his age, status as an abuse survivor, and tragic past excuse his own deplorable actions? Certainly not. But, again, nothing exists without context. If Shinji is a monster, then what is humanity who bred monstrosity into him?
Furthermore, mental illness, or any disability, does not on its own make one less of a person, or any better or worse of a person. A leech? Of course he is! He’s a child! A traumatized, abused, neglected child who, if anything, has been the victim of people leeching off of him and stunting him from his own growth. Shinji showed everyone kindness, even after Asuka bullied and abused him, Rei dismissed him, and Touji assaulted him. You can’t say he’s a bad friend to anyone - not even Kaworu.
Is there a lot more to him than being a cute moeblob, worthy of blind praise simply for being? Certainly. But there’s also a lot more to him than what makes him worthy of loathing just the same.
